Naturally, I presumed that there was nothing underneath but cheap subfloor.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that the ratty board was just the edge of a carpet tack strip. The rest of the flooring is nearly pristine tongue-and-groove pine. I say nearly because there are now a lot of nail holes to patch that will be left from the tack strips.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe I can win after all!
