Friends,
If you’ve spent any time scrolling through the online wasteland that is LinkedIn.com, first of all you have my deepest sympathy. While there, you might’ve noticed that there’s currently a lot of whining about artificial intelligence. The middle management overachiever types providing a free hype machine for Wall Street’s shiny object, and workers lamenting that their employment hinges on using AI for everything
I just read a post from a hiring manager lamenting that most of her current crop of applicants included generic AI-generated cover letters with their applications. She wondered aloud if anybody can write anymore.
People have been leaning into AI for what, 18 months? A year? Has everyone forgotten everything already, or is the pressure to produce mountains of “content” rather than carefully considered thoughts left everybody numb?
Thankfully (I guess) I don’t have that problem. Nobody’s breathing down my neck to use ChatGPT or Claude to write anything and they’re unlikely to anytime soon. That makes me a special precious unicorn and people should hire me right away.
Your pal,
– bob
